More Upcoming Blockbuster Movies Going 3D

Today more news on how Hollywood is shifting towards incorporating 3D more regularly as theaters continue to increase the number of digital 3D capable screens available. The success of not only Avatar but other 3D movies before it has created a perception that it is the best way to capture an audience all the while being able to charge more for the tickets.

While Warner Brothers has not yet commented officially word is that Clash of the Titans and the both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be in 3D. Unlike Avatar however these movies were not filmed with 3D in mind and will be converted to the format. The cost of doing so is only about $5 million per movie so it isn’t a huge investment for the return that would be expected. Because of the time involved in converting Clash it has been delayed by a week and will now release on April 2nd. The Harry Potter films will meet their original dates of November 19th of this year and July 15th 2011.

I’ve seen movies that 3D really added to the experience and others where it just felt tacked on. For Clash of the Titans I’ll probably see that in regular 2D which is how it was originally envisioned. The Potter movies though may be worth the extra charge. It’ll be interesting to see the reaction as moviegoers may go in expecting the “Avatar experience” and come away disappointed because of that.

Yeah they weren't really made for 3D but it was just tacked on after. Toy Story 3 should be impressive though in 3D.

I don't know, 3d seems to be pretty much in demand even before Avatar came out. All 3d movies have a 2d showing on a lot more screens and the 3d tickets are what have been selling for the last several years since Polar Express. I just read an article that it came to light in a news article that Dunedin New Zealand's theater was not considering installing a 3d screen. The amount of phone calls that came in upset to that fact caused the theater to reconsider the decision. This is how it is going with 3d. I know one thing. In Fort Myers Florida you better get the Imax 3d version of Avatar because it sells out, but not the 2d version.
