‘Take 1′ is a new weekly posting that will recap the previous weeks entertainment news. ‘Captain America’ is picked, a ‘Predators’ trailer, and one of the highest grossing films of all time is coming back to theaters in 3D, are all amongst the big pieces of news this week.

Reports today indicate that Marvel has offered the part of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, to Chris Evans. Neither side has confirmed the news but multiple sources have revealed that a deal has been offered though Evans would first have to find a way out of an obligation to film a different movie this summer. Months of ongoing speculation has led Marvel to miss their self-imposed decision date with rumored names being narrowed down and added over the last few weeks.
One of the concerns with Evans had been that he has already appeared in a Marvel property, having played Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in the Fantastic Four films. It seems that wasn’t seen as a big obstacle when it came time for a final decision. For the most part it is unlikely that moviegoers strongly identify Evans as that character and won’t be able to wipe the slate clean going into Captain America.
If Evans turns out to be the guy I think it is a decent choice, better than some that had been rumored (Channing Tatum, John Krasinski, Chase Crawford) but maybe not as good as others (Scott Porter, Mike Vogel, Garret Hedlund). What concerns me is that apparently Evans never screen tested for the role while the others went through that process. They may just be banking on his experience and charisma to pull it off.
Yahoo! has posted an exclusive clip from Warner Bros’ Clash Of The Titans. In the clip ‘Calibos’ attacks ‘Perseus’, played by Sam Worthington. From the footage I’ve seen so far, I would imagine this movie is going to look pretty good in 3D. If you’ve missed any of the other of the previous ‘Titans’ clips you can find them here. Clash of the Titans is set to release April 2.

Warner Brothers announced at ShoWest yesterday that all of the studio’s tentpole movies from now on will be released in 3D. That includes all superhero films or any big budget special effects driven films. WB will be releasing five 3D movies this year and are expected to have nine next year. It was made clear that the 3D initiative would include those in the line of DC Comics, which means the Superman reboot and next Batman film will be released in 3D.
It is unknown how many of these movies will be filmed in 3D vs being converted in post-production. WB has spoken highly of the conversion process, which has been utilized on the upcoming Clash of the Titans. However WB showed off some of Titans in 3D at ShoWest, as well as some screenings having taken place already, and the reaction has been at best underwhelming if not primarily disappointment regarding the final product. So hopefully WB makes it a standard to shoot the movies in 3D given that the difference is significant.

Alice in Wonderland held off four new entries last week and this time around it should be able to easily win again. Three new movies hit theaters and none are real threats for the top spot. The NCAA Tournament could also eat into potential grosses this weekend.

Last week a sneak peak video for Predators made its way out and now the official trailer for the movie has been unveiled. Starring Adrian Brody, Topher Grace, and Laurence Fishburne and directed by Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy) the story finds a group of elite warriors kidnapped and dropped on an alien planet as part of a game where they are being hunted. Predators is slated to release on July 9th. Continue on to watch the trailer!

News has surfaced that Jamie Foxx is set to star alongside Bruce Willis in the adaptation of the video game series Kane and Lynch. The film is being directed by first timer Simon Crane, who has primarily worked on stunts in the past though he has a good deal of experience as an assistant director as well. Willis and Fox will play a pair of inmates who escape prison and team up to retrieve a stolen fortune. The movie is set to release sometime in 2011.
Three new movies took the top slots in DVD sales. Disney’s Old Dogs topped the list of a week of solid DVD releases. 2012 fell to fourth in sales, but still managed to take the top spot in rentals. Below is the list of DVD sales and rentals for the week ending March 14, 2010:
