Several networks were making a play for the new JJ Abrams series to be known as Alcatraz and today we learned that Fox has come away the winner. The network already houses his project Fringe which is entering its third season while NBC is launching Undercovers next week.

The new show is being described as about “mysteries, secrets and the most infamous prison of all time: Alcatraz”. So yeah it sounds a little bit like one of his prior shows Lost, but who isn’t looking for a replacement for that experience now that it is gone?

Abrams sure seems to have a lot on his plate. While he isn’t the showrunner on Fringe or Undercovers he produces and oversees them, he’s currently filming the upcoming movie Super 8, and is setting the stage for Star Trek 2. He is also currently shopping an untitled series from Jonathan Nolan and is helping push along other projects in various stages.
