During the Super Bowl, the TV spot for Robin Hood was released. Today, Yahoo! has the exclusive trailer premiere. Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator) joins Russell Crowe again to give us another rendition of the classic tale. One thing is for sure, this trailer makes Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves seem rather soft. The film will release in theaters May 14, 2010.

Fox today announced a release date change for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Previously slated to come out on April 23rd it will now make its way into theaters on September 24th.
It used to be that a delay of this nature was a sign of problems but that is no longer necessarily the case. Most recently Shutter Island was moved back over four months in order to better position itself in the marketplace. It went on to open with over $40 million and has made nearly $100 million through its first three weeks of release. The circumstances being faced by Wall Street 2 could be similar to those that prompted Warner Brothers to move Shutter Island back.
Early buzz on Money Never Sleeps is actually quite good, with reports out of test screenings being very positive and response to the trailers going over well. Its main competition on the weekend of 9/24 will be Zack Snyder’s Legend of the Guardians which is more targeted at families. Theaters around the time of the original release date will be packed for Kick-Ass, A Nightmare on Elm Street, opening on that very day The Losers, and two weeks later Iron Man 2. The move may be less about that though than it is for positioning as a potential consideration for awards season.

Variety is reporting that time is running out on 24’s run and its current eighth season will be its last. While Fox is thought to be shopping it to other networks it is unlikely any would pick it up under the circumstances. A final decision on the fate of 24 will supposedly be determined within the next few days.
This does not come as much of a surprise. It is the final year of Kiefer Sutherland’s contract, the ratings are still good but they have been slipping the last few seasons, and the series is expensive to produce. The show has become stale recycling the same plot twists or going for shocking moments that make little sense otherwise. Having peaked with season five, 24 bottomed out in season six and has never fully recovered.
24 will continue on though with the feature film project that is in development. That will find Jack Bauer overseas and drop the real-time format, instead compacting a day’s worth of events into the two hour movie.
Rumors had already been swirling about who would be cast as Steve Rogers in the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America, but nothing was official. According to Fox411, The Office’s John Krasinski is the front runner for the role and it’s his to lose.
Insiders at the Marvel compound tell Fox 411 that he is close to landing the superhero gig of his life. John, who plays Jim on “The Office,” has appeared in front of producers repeatedly since the start of the new year and since rumors began in February.
“John has read 4 times and is doing screen tests,” our source tells us. “He has screen tested 2 times so far. It’s very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week.”
I think many are having trouble picturing Krasinski in the role, but I know people thought the same about Heath Ledger as ‘The Joker’. We all know how that turned out. Who’s to say we won’t be pleasantly surprised by Krasinski’s performance, if he should get it. Does hearing the news make you more or less excited about the movie? The First Avenger: Captain America hits theaters on July 22, 2011.
(Update) Marvel is denying the news and apparently a new name has entered discussions. Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Push) is now amongst the names most strongly considered along with Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy, Friday Night Lights) and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield).

This is a solid week for movie releases. The big name hitting store shelves is George Clooney’s Up in the Air. The movie scored a 90% ‘fresh rating’ on Rottentomatoes.com and I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say a bad thing about the film. Other notables releases include The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day and The Fourth Kind. Here is the full release schedule broken up by standard DVD and Blu-ray:

Disney has released a full length trailer for Tron Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 classic Tron. Jeff Bridges returns in his role of Kevin Flynn and Garrett Hedlund plays his son Sam Flynn. The movie also stars Olivia Wilde and Michael Sheen. The story centers on Sam attempting to find his father, who has been missing since the events of the original film, leading him to enter the Master Control Program and face tests in a much more technologically advanced setting than before. Tron Legacy is slated to release on December 17th.
MTV caught up with actor Ed Helms this past Friday at the Spirit Awards. Helms shared some news on the upcoming sequel to the 2009 smash hit.
“Well, we’re gonna shoot it, and it’s gonna to be awesome,” he said. “It’s gonna star Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis — I have a part apparently, which I’m excited about — and Justin Bartha, and Todd Phillips is gonna direct it.”
Up to this point we hadn’t heard for sure if Justin Bartha, Doug from the first film, would return for the sequel. It now looks like all the guys will be back. Zach Galifianakis confirmed the sequel would take the foursome to Thailand. The Hangover 2 is slated to start shooting in the Fall of 2010.

After getting the first trailer back in mid-December for Iron Man 2 a follow-up has just been released. The new trailer once again focuses on “Whiplash” (Mickey Rourke) but also features new looks at the “Black Widow” (Scarlett Johansson), Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), and “War Machine” (Don Cheadle). We even get a glimpse of Nick Fury.
With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances — and confront powerful enemies.
The story is set six months after the end of Iron Man and while it won’t directly take on the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline from the comics some signs of Stark’s alcoholism are expected to materialize. Iron Man 2 is slated to release on May 7th 2010.
