The rise to stardom has been quick for Sam Worthington over the last six months, with prominent roles in tentpole films such as Terminator Salvation, the upcoming Clash of the Titans, and of course the biggest movie in history Avatar. He also is lined up to star as Dracula in Dracula: Year Zero. With such a busy schedule already, and an Avatar sequel sometime down the line, it makes it difficult to imagine him taking on another potential franchise. Despite that news has made it out that Warner Brothers has signed him as the lead in Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future.

Dan Dare is based on the incredibly popular British comic book series which never gained much traction in the US and remains somewhat of an unknown outside of England. Though the comics were written in the 1950’s the stories were set in the 1990’s. Dan Dare is the chief pilot in the Interplanet Space Fleet and the first story involved him voyaging to Venus to solve Earth’s food crisis while battling his arch-enemy Mekon. No word on when production is slated to ramp up or of a possible release date just yet.
