John Hlavin To Write Fourth ‘Underworld’ Film

“The Shield” writer John Hlavin has been hired to write the fourth “Underworld” film. According to THR.com, Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films, is producing along with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright. A director for the film has not yet been announced.

Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, “but I can tell you it’s not a prequel.” He added, “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”

Neither Kate Beckinsale or Rhona Mitra, have signed on to make a return for the fourth film. At this point everything seems a bit up in the air. As a fan of the “Underworld” films, I’ll be interested to see what direction the fourth installment takes us.

I hope the fourth takes the story back to ancient times. For example Viktor is the high priest at the Capitoline temple in Rome where he conducts experiments with bat and wolf blood using slaves from a dungeon. The barbarian invasion forces him and some compatriates to flee to Dalmatia and then into Romania where werewolves begin to breed like rabbits and Viktor has to build his harem of wives and children. Viktor begins living in the caves and eventually build forts everywhere to keep himself and his empire alive while still be set upon by the werewolves. His father cornelius chooses to bury himself in the very depth of the roman catacombs waiting to be born again. The first seline could be a vestal virgin eyed by Viktor son Adrianus who heads the praetorian guard and who is kidnapped by Adrianus and taken to Doicletion palace in Split, where she becomes a vampire with Adrianus. I guess you could develop on the storyline more with lots of intrigueing details. ian
