As previously reported, last month NBC canceled the cop drama Southland. Well the channel that “knows drama”, TNT, has picked up the series and will start airing episodes in January.

According to Entertainment Weekly:

TNT announced this morning that it plans to re-air the series’ original seven episodes NBC broadcast, plus the six new hours that NBC ordered but chose not to air. Depending on ratings, TNT will order more. The cable network plans to run the tough cop drama Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. — opposite The Jay Leno Show. “This is a perfect opportunity for us to introduce the series to new viewers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, in a statement released today.

Did NBC make a mistake in canceling the show? The overall reaction has been positive about TNT picking up the series. What are your thoughts?

Southland was the single best new drama last season. I'm so glad TNT picked it up. NBC has become a bargain basement network. Who knew the day would come when they would be outclassed by FOX? Their news division was gutted years ago and now the entertainment division has been zuckerfied to the brink of extinction. And this was the network that brought us E/R and Friends. Who knew.
  • And Seinfeld.

This show was solid, i'm looking forward to the new episodes.

NBC is having a rough time, it seems. 30 Rock and The Office haven't been as funny this year, i can't stand the Jay Leno Show, and Conan's ratings haven' been great (although the show is pretty good)
  • That's all? And it was deleted? Are you sure it got posted? I think pasta and I are the only ones who can delete comments and I know I wouldn't delete that. I don't think he would either. I know that sometimes my stuff doesn't show up. Either way, not a big deal.

makes sense for tnt. the show was pretty good
  • NBC buried themselves with the Jay Leno fiasco. Going to take them a long time to dig out of that after they decide to go back to original programming which seems inevitable now that Leno's ratings are low and the news stations are frustrated because his leadout has weakened their ratings.
